The internet has changed a lot since the beginning of it and it keeps developing every day, and therefore consumers do too.
We as a society, have fully integrated technology in our lives, and today we are going to review some of these keys.
How the internet has developed and how this affected the global population.
Access to the Internet:
I recently found a statistic from Statista 2019 where it shows that we have around 4.5 billion active internet users, 4 Billion unique mobile internet users, 3.7 billion of users active in social media and 3.6 Billion users active on mobile social media

It's unbelievable how those numbers increased in comparison to the past few years.
For example: from 2009 to 2019, we went from having 24% of the global population having internet access, to 58% of worldwide population in 2019, that means, a 34% of the population has obtained internet access since then, according to Euromonitor international.
Digital Devices used by audiences:
The Advance of technology has caused an increase in the production of devices with internet access, which made it much easier for us to stay connected all the time. There is no doubt that we're now living in a digital world, therefore most of the devices and tools that we're using are connected to the internet, but there are 3 special devices that most people use in a daily basis but also many other devices more uncommon that we just don’t realize, this could be devices such as Home Assistants, TV, eBooks, storage devices, etc…
But today we are going to focus on the top 3 most used devices:
So on the top number one we've got the Computer, with 3.5 billion users, upcoming next we've got the little but killer, Smartphone, with 3.2 billion users and for the last we've got the Tablet with 1.2 billion users. (Statista, 2019)
Experts are estimating to reach 3.8 billion smartphone users for 2021.
As you can see in the following graphic, the daily time using the internet through computers and tablets has decreased by 26% since 2014. (Hootsuite, 2019) This is caused by smartphones, as we spend much more time with it and it covers many of the utilities that a pc or tablet can do.

How Consumers Search Information:
Nowadays, with the ease to access the internet anytime and anywhere, consumers have become more aware of the buying process.
In 2019 81% of customers would conduct online research to contrast information about the product they’re interested in, affirms Fleishman Hillard.
Reliablesoft made a statistic of the search engine market, share worldwide, in September 2019 where it compares other statistics through 3 different websites and the results are pretty similar, view Slideshare with more infographics.
Customers Buying Online:
Online shopping has become a lifestyle, growing at exponential rates. We all know that.
According to Bizfeel, 57% of customers prefer to shop online, 31% prefer to visit the physical shop while 12% said that it's indifferent to them.
Already, 57% of global internet users had purchased fashion-related products, accordingly, the fashion industry is leading the ranking on “What customers buy the most” followed by tourism, tech products, and second-hand sales. States (Oberlo, 2019)
The numbers in Mobile E-commerce have increased and already 62% of smartphone users use it for online shopping. States Digital Doughnut, 2019
Online Video Consumption:
The statistics demonstrate that the amount of people who consumes TV is less every year, however, online video consumption is increasing.
6 out of 10 people rather watching online videos than TV. (google)
YouTube is the second largest search engine, it receives more than 1.5 B users per month and plays over 1 B hours of video each day. (which is just unbelievable)
Mobile video consumption rises by 100% each year. (Hubspot)
